FORTHCOMING EVENTS
To celebrate Happy Hearts winning the Prestige Award for "Specialist Instructor Programme 25/26" and the 40th anniversary of Salli being in the Fitness Industry, we are planning an afternoon of celebration with a buffet lunch, fun and games at a venue on the outskirts of Warminster.
Happy Hearts is helping to subsidize this event, but there will be a cost of £10 to each member and Guests who wish to attend.
If you are interested in helping Salli celebrate please book your place at the event as places are limited. The Provisional date for the event is Wednesday 16th September.
The Member of the Month for March will be announced when we return after the Easter break don't forget it could be you who will be holding the coveted Solid Gold Happy Hearts Trophy

We have just finished our latest 7 week Heart Health Programme and we have met some lovely people who will hopefully be joining us in classes in the next few months. We have had some really positive evaluation and feedback which will help us to strengthen and develop the course programme, our next course will be January 2026 and more details will be released in due course.

Hello lovely members another Month has passed we are now officially in autumn and the days are getting shorter & the wonderful colours of nature are fabulous for raising the spirit.

Happy Hearts will be taking a short Break from Tuesday the 7th to Friday 10th October Inclusive.
All online sessions will be replaced with recordings which will be sent out on Sunday October 5th.
If any of the Shaftesbury Friday Group wish to have a recording to replace the class please let us know.

SEPTEMBER 25
Hello lovely members we do hope you have all had a lovely few weeks break and enjoyed the wonderful weather over our summer bank holiday
The Happy Hearts team have had a lovely 2 weeks enjoying lots of rest and relaxation and are raring to go for the Autumn Term which as you know starts back on Monday 1st September.
We are excited to be running our next Heart Heart Programme on Wednesday mornings from 10-1.00pm at South Newton Village Hall starting on 17th September. Please spread the word and tell your friends, families and neighbours if you think they could benefit from a little more understanding and management of their condition, medications and possible side effects, heart health nutrition and what exercises are super duper good for your hearts and those that are best avoided.
If any of you feel like a refresher or an update on new research (Statins) you will be more than welcome to join, just let one of the team know you would like to attend. All course details available on our website.

As Happy Hearts have had a summer break for most of August there will be no member of the month BUT we had two champion members for July: Jane Fawcus and Crispin Edmunds:
Firstly, is Jane Fawcus.
Jane has been a member of Happy Hearts for a little over 18 months after finishing the Cardiac Rehabilitation programme.
Since joining Jane has been a diligent and regular member but we are particularly proud of her as it is only 8 weeks since having a knee replacement. It was very clear that over the last few months Jane was in a lot of pain and discomfort but soldiered on doing everything that she was asked to do by her consultant to ensure the operation would go ahead and adapting her exercises with us to make sure her recovery would be as comfortable and speedy as possible.
We are more than aware that many would have giving up at this stage and just given in to the pain and inconvenience it caused and stopped but not our Jane, her determination and perseverance meant that 6 weeks post op she arrived back with us for her usual Monday morning class at South Newton.
We can't express how proud we are of you Jane.
Our 2nd worthy July recipient is our long term member Crispin Edmunds.
Crispin suffers from Heart Failure and COPD where his oxygen levels drop quickly and significantly limiting his stamina so Crispin needs to work a little rest a little. Even the warm up has proved challenging over the years however over the last few months we have noticed a huge improvement it seems our Crispin has turned a corner, maybe it's a tweak in medication, or the fact that he recently attended a Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme, our continual gentle persuasion or a little light but firm kick up the bum from his lovely wife and exercise partner Penny. 😆
A combination of all we are sure, but the best thing ever is now Crispin completes the warm up in full and 80% of the rest of the session ... how fab is that 😄
What was just perfect was that when we announced he was the winner in our Codford class his look of surprise was priceless.
Slowly slowly Crispin you have accomplished.
Well done our man you are an inspiration to others.

Hello Happy Hearters here's to a lovely sunny August..
Meet Gwen Twyman
our Member of the Month for June 25
Gwen from Amesbury is 88 years young and a little dynamo she joined Happy Hearts after taking part in Salisbury District Hospitals Respiratory Rehabilitation (LEEP) Programme which as the name implies offers exercise and education for those suffering from lung disorders such as COPD.
Gwen was keen to continue her fitness that she had gained from this programme and therefore joined us on 28th April at our Amesbury class. Gwen uses a walker to help her with her movement and balance but seriously this lady could leave this aid at the doorstep we are sure she only brings this with her as an excuse because there is a turbo charge button somewhere within it.
Gwen is simply astonishing both in her attitude and determination and has not missed one class since joining us, even when the weather got hotter and the class members dwindled because of the heat Gwen was there.
This is one amazing lady with the stamina, mobility and balance of someone half her age, proving once again that age is no barrier to improving health and fitness.
Gwen is one hell of a lady and a real inspiration.
Ps Salli is still trying to find the button on Gwen's buggy that turns her into "Gangster Granny" (David Walliams) if you don't have grandchildren you still have to read this book. New to Salli's 'Book of the Month' Section 😆

Extra Curricular Classes in May
A big thank you to all of you who attended the Bank Holiday Extra Curricular Classes at South Newton Village Hall, a total of 61 Happy Hearters joined us over the two sessions and great fun and a loud and raucous community sing along was enjoyed by everyone.
Fund Raising in Shaftesbury
Yet again a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this fund raising event.
To those of you who attended the event on the 24th and to those who gave raffle prizes and bought lots of raffle tickets a total of £1012.34 was raised to support the hall.
Happy Hearts had quite a few winners of the raffle prizes and these will all be announced over the coming week.
Future Event For Your Diary
We are planning our next Heart Health Programme (Cardiac Rehab Phase III) for early September, dates and contents of the programme to be confirmed over the next few months, if you or anyone you know are interested in participating in the course, please let a member of the team know.
You may or may not know that Salli's main qualification to teach Heart Patients (BACPR) has to be revalidated every three years. In May it was Salli's turn, she had to complete a comprehensive and detailed revalidation. You will be pleased to know that Salli passed with a marvellous score of 90%...
Not that you would ever know, as she keeps it very quiet...😇

Hello everyone hope you all had a Happy Easter..
Our March MEMBER OF THE MONTH was Phil Raymond from Amesbury.
Phil only joined us on January 13th this year and came with quite a list of health issues which included, cardio vascular problems, being over weight and also a borderline diabetic. BUT what a transformation😛...
Phil knew at the tender age of 61 that he had a problem and needed to take stock of his life, his health was rapidly going down hill causing a whole plethora of health and daily living issues.
It was a slow and we are sure a some what uncomfortable start to exercising with us for a few sessions, but he was determined and within a few weeks Phil blossomed, not just in ability but hugely in his confidence.
We could quite literally before our eyes see his fitness improve and his weight drop but the crowning glory was that on the 24th March exactly 12 exercise sessions on that Phil proudly announced that he could touch his toes which he could never recall ever doing.
Phil also managed to join us for a few of our 'Heart Health Programme classes' for some much needed education especially in regards to proper nutrition and healthy eating.
We are so amazingly proud of you Phil, you have achieved so much in three months we cannot wait to check in on your incredible journey in another three months time...
P.S after we came back from our Easter break Phil proudly announced that he had lost his first stone since he has been coming to us.

As we will not be running the Amesbury 1.30pm to 2.30pm session on either of these bank holidays we invite any member of the Amesbury group to join us at South Newton.
Also if you are a member of any other group or only attend online sessions and you have nothing better to do on the bank holiday morning then please come and join us.
These classes will be the normal price of £10 per person and £16 per couple if you wish to attend and haven't already, please let Salli know ASAP as this coming Bank Holiday Monday 5th is filling up fast.

There is a fundraising event being organised in Shaftesbury Youth Club on Saturday the 24th May, all money being raised will be spent on the hall for some much needed revamping.
We have been asked for donations and raffle prizes and if we would run a stall on the day and most importantly to provide a demonstration to advertise Happy Hearts and what we provide in the Community, Salli obviously cant do this on her own so if any Shaftesbury members would like to get involved and be part of the demonstration we would be most grateful.

Hello everyone Happy Spring..
Our February MEMBER OF THE MONTH is Sue Keene from Warminster.
Sue attends our Codford and South Newton classes.
She joined us following her heart attack in July 2023, in need of some help and advice in improving her heart health and general fitness, Sue also suffers quite badly with arthritis.
Sue has been attending Happy Hearts for roughly eight months, in this short time she has consistently shown determination and perseverance in improving her fitness, initially she was not always able to do the exercises required but she warmly embraced any alternative options that we offered.
When Sue misses face to face sessions she always asks for a recorded online session to replace them so as not to miss out and keep her now improving fitness level consistent.
Just recently Sue had a little setback with her health, but like the trooper that she is, she picked herself up, dusted herself off, put her positive hat on and got on with it.
Sue is a wonderful addition to our lovely, lively, positive Happy Hearts membership. Well done Sue you thoroughly deserve this nomination.

Heart Health Programme
The Heart Health Programme is up and running and is well attended both by members and new faces. We are saying good bye to our lovely Paramedic Emma due to family commitments and pressures of work, she is extremely knowledgeable, lovely and smiley and will be very sadly missed but the good news is she will be popping in to see us on an Ad Hoc basis to help us.
We are welcoming our new Team Member Jacqui a Retired Cardiac Nurse.
General Information
We have recently had a resurgence of interest in our online Stretch and Strengthening classes, (recordings are available for a Small Fee) if desired.
Salli will also offer a Chair based Yoga session as well as a Beginner/Intermediate Stretch and Strengthening class, also online if there is sufficient interest.

Hello again Happy Hearters the new year is here and we welcome it with a renewed bounce in our step, lets have a really fit, healthy and prosperous one.
Member of the Month.
Our NOVEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH is Sheila Clifford of Barford St Martin near Wilton.
Sheila joined us just under two years ago after attending our Heart Health Programme. 2024 has not been an easy year for Sheila with a few ongoing health problems but she has always remained positive and enthusiastic about returning to our Happy Heart classes which she says is like ‘Coming Home’.
Just recently Sheila was in attendance at a CPR Emergency situation and in her words “I used all of the knowledge I gained from attending my First Aid and CPR Training” to help the patient (after having had a refresher on our Heart Health Programme).
After this experience Sheila felt the emotional and physical effects this can have on your body and a few hours later had an Angina attack, many would have taken time out from exercise classes but not our Sheila she was straight back with us the following Monday. Hello again Happy Hearters Christmas is almost upon us where has this year gone.....

Our Member of the Month for October 24 is....Helen Curtis.
Helen is a member of our Shaftesbury Happy Hearts group, she started in mid September this year.
Helen started with us because she suffers from Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation and felt very tired most of the time.
We awarded Helen our Member of the Month for her tenacity and determination in gradually pacing herself and doing a little bit more each session, she quietly takes on and completes the discipline of each exercise station choosing the exercise option as she needs to and has improved every single week.

Hello all, the Dark nights and the Chill is upon us .
Member of the Month
Our Member of the Month for September 24 is....Karen Nash.
Karen joined our newest class at Codford near Warminster a few weeks after we started there in April this Year. Karen suffers with Diabetes and had a limited range of movement and very clearly lacked confidence in her own abilities, but every single week she has come back and her fitness has improved with her new found confidence. We have awarded Karen our Member of the Month for "Keeping on Keeping on" and always smiling (sometimes when she doesn't want to) the good news is her Diabetes is more under control, her mobility and and balance are much improved and her variation of shuttle walks and Box Step are awesome. Keep up the great work Karen we are very proud of you.

Hello all, suffice to say it is well and truly Autumn.
As you know in August we introduced our 'Member of the Month' Award for the member we feel needs to be acknowledged in improving their fitness.
Augusts 'lucky 'winner was 'Bob Day' from our Amesbury class. Bob joined us in June this year requiring the use of a stick to help walk and aid his balance. Bob had to do most of his first few classes seated but with much determination and perseverance Bob is now 'Stick free', completes the whole class from start to finish, his balance has improved enormously and he has lost weight.
Well Done Bob we are very proud of you.

So here we are in September not sure how that happened!! Hope you have all had a lovely summer and ready to have another term of looking after your heart health.
Salli has been keeping her brain active and updating her knowledge over the last 6 months through the City of Bristol College by gaining a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Nutrition which will be put to extremely good use in our Heart Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Programmes.
As we mentioned last month as a little bit of fun we are introducing our ' Member of the Month' for the member or maybe members that we feel have gone all out to improve their fitness, made a huge improvement in their general fitness, balance or something as 'simple' as the sit to stand exercise.
The lucky participant (s) will be notified of the accolade 😆😆 during their class. It is a little bit of fun just to let you know that your achievements do not go unnoticed.
